Once the sun comes out in Copenhagen, there is always a desire to party. Copenhagen"s largest (and possibly craziest) street and club party Distortion starts this Wednesday May 30th and runs for five days. Last year, there were over 275,000 people in attendance. Needless to say, it is a big party. With a No-VIP attitude, it allows for a completely mobile party.
Each day the party runs in a particular district of Copenhagen, where people will flood the streets with booze, barbeques (weather permitting), music and art. During the day, there are free street parties and at night there are parties in clubs, bars, secret locations. With incredible music acts like Theo Parish, Oh Land, and Simian Mobile Disco having played Distortion in the past, it is sure to be good.
This years line-up and agenda is no different. Each year, there is a Copenhagen dinner, which is a "a sort of outdoor pop-up restaurant". Local restaurants and shops act as hosts, organising a large communal meal. Bring your own booze attitude and the option to bring your own food. It isn"t exclusive to young professionals partying- each district has special activities planned for young families. Urban Outfitters is hosting a costume party. There will be theatre in the city. In Norrebro, there will be a circus street party. Record stores are hosting events. Street arcade have organised experimental arcade games. You can attend a wood workshop. At the final party, there will be a three minute rave. There is a lot happening.
In terms of the music line-up, there is a band, DJ or artist worth checking out at each of the night parties. Chromatics and TYGA are playing live sets on Wednesday at the night party in the City. Andrew Weatherall and Trentemøller are both DJ-ing at the Skatepark night party on Friday. 100% Silk are party hosts, so their line-up is a guaranteed hit: LA Vampires, Maria Minerva and more. Yelle and Mike Skinner are both DJ-ing over the week. Not to mind all the Danish home-grown talent to discover throughout the week.
