Pick Me Up Some Graphics

For the third year running, UK's first graphic arts fair, Pick Me Up returns to London's Somerset House. After the success of its first two years, the fair will feature some of the most exciting names and collectives in the graphic design and illustration industry. As well showcasing some amazing talent, the fair will offer a range of limited edition, affordable graphic art and illustration for sale.

Pick Me Up is not your average exhibition with some works for sale though, collectives such as This Is It, Soho Warriors Football Club and Dutch collective Ships of Fools have been invited to design and curate their own space to exhibit, make and sell artworks. These all-day running workshops allow members of the public to physically experience a behind-the-scenes studio atmosphere, perfect for all you budding illustrators/graphic designers out there if you want to find out how to start your own studio!

Peepshow Collective are also taking a 10 day residency in the space to present 'The Museum of Objects & Origins. Bringing together a collection of artefacts including drawings, objects, prints, and costumes, to be housed in their very own museum. Exhibiting items from an invented past, the collection will also be a living, changing display as themed workshops with the public will create new works to fill the final few empty cabinets.

Pick Me Up 2012 has also invited a selection of galleries to curate bespoke environments in which to bring their expertise to the public. Nelly Duff, a contemporary art gallery in East London, specialises in limited edition prints using screen printing, lithography, embossing, hot stamping, linocut and woodblock printing. Also present will be Beach London, an art gallery in Shoreditch, will present prints by it's represented artists, along with a range of limited edition and small-press artists' books, zones and magazines in a vintage-like library setting on bookshelves and in cabinets.

For the first time, there will be 'The Enquiry Desk', an initiative set up by illustrator Zara Wood and Josie Sullens, to support young illustrators by offering professional portfolio reviews. A bit like the Best of British open day at Liberty, 'The Enquiry Desk' will act as a platform for those starting out in the industry, with sessions bookable in advance.

What attracts the most attention, 'Pick Me Up Selects' showcases 20 designers and illustrators, this year featuring Sarah Beetson, Tim McDonagh, Tim Enthoven, Yoko Furusho, Paul X Johnson, Matthew the Horse, Michael Kirkham, Sac Magique, Sarah Maycock, Yuko Michishita, Jon McNaught, Martin Nicolausson, Niki Pilkington, David Sparshott, Kristjana S Williams, Phil Wrigglesworth, Riikka Sormunen, Zeloot and Zim&Zou.

On top of the permanent exhibits, there will be 2 weekend events devoted to children's illustration and cartoons/comics, Late Thursdays on 22 and 29 March as well as a series of talks and lectures called 'Show & Tell'.

Pick Me Up is open at Somerset House from 22 March to 1 April 2012, daily from 11.00-20.00
